No one’s going to ever look at you and say “Yup, your superpower is ______”. After a while it may become apparent, but in the mean time try new things, experiences, really track what you love and don’t love about those experiences. If you keep trying new things you’re going to eventually stumble upon your superpower. It’ll be a magical moment in time where you’ll finally understand your calling, your purpose, the reason you were put on earth.
No it won’t be flying, invisibility or metallic claws coming out of your hands, no it’ll be something inside you, something unique that’s sets you apart from everyone else. If you still think it’s impossible, I will still beg to differ. Nothing is actually impossible and yes everyone does have a super power.
Nothing’s Actually Impossible
Remember when you were a kid, you’d tie a bed sheet around your neck and Leap from chair to chair because you were a super hero? Nothing was impossible. If you wanted to ride a bike, build a fort, fly to the moon, WHATEVER, no one could tell you it was impossible. You’d just fail and fail and fail until you got it right.
Some how between being a superhero child and “growing up” someone takes away our cape. They tell us to do what we’re told, don’t follow your dreams, after all, superhero’s are made up, right?
Everyone has a superpower, everyone has something they are amazing at. If you don’t know what yours is, just try a different cape!
We’re all meant to do something super, nothing is actually impossible, we just like to believe what the critics say. Critics don’t change the world, superhero’s do.
Go tie that bed sheet around your neck, find your superpower.
We’ve been busy over at Strategy Lab!! At the start of 2015 we decided to film a short clip every week on a variety of topics. Usually about marketing or some story that deal with business. Below are a couple of my favourites:
Just ideas that you can actually use in your life. Start saying hi to strangers, change your wallpaper on your computer and cell phone to something inspiring. Keep changing your salutation on your emails to something that will make the other person smile. Those and many more!!
Episode 15 – In this one I explain why I give away Stickers
I love to give away things that you can put up in your office that will remind you of how awesome you really are.
No successful person in history went though life without failure.
It’s not about how many times you’re knocked down, it’s about how many times you’re willing to get back up after you’ve been knocked down(I think Rocky said that). In competitive sports there’s bound to be cuts. The competition ends up being a driver, a motivator, a reason to stay after practice, a reason to show up early, a reason to go to more camps, a reason to get extra reps in every day.
Those who love competition aren’t phased by being cut.
Everyone’s been cut from something. I remember being cut from the Provincial Volleyball team, I wasn’t tall enough, well that and I had the vertical of a small Elephant. I was cut from Tier 1 hockey twice, I was cut from tier 2 hockey once. I played an entire year in the worst hockey division in Regina for my age group. The following year I played tier 1.
It doesn’t matter the hand you’re dealt in sports, it’s how you react. It’s your attitude, and yeah it matters when your teams winning but more importantly attitude matters most when things aren’t going your way. When the world seems like it’s against you. When you feel like all is lost and that failure this time may be fatal. That’s the moment when your attitude is tested, the weak usually don’t last. Giving up is easier than fighting.
Many kids give up after being cut, many people give-up when they face insurmountable odds.
Many people don’t see the beauty that comes with a hard fought battle. There’s something romantic about sports and the endless competition. When all odds are against you, and you still prevail. There’s something amazing about the upset by underdog. There is also something special about the underdog.
When you’re cut you’re the underdog. The odds are against you. No one expects you to rise up again, no one thinks you’ll do it. But the greatest stories in sports are always underdog triumphs. It happens all the time. A team or person against all common sense defies the odds and comes out victorious. That will never happen without the right attitude and the resilience to keep moving towards your goal no matter what.
So, are you going to complain about being cut, or are you going to start practicing more and start taking fate into your own hands?
The calendar you give away every year is cliche, that monthly newsletter of yours bores people, and if you still think sending a generic Christmas card in the mail every December keeps you “top of mind”, you’re completely off kilter. Its time to get smarter about what you’re giving away on behalf of your company. Remember; “there is no such thing as a neutral brand interaction, you either increase or decrease the perception people have of the value of your brand, every time they come in contact with it.” Read more
