I think there’s a major fundamental flaw in the way the majority of us think about our opinions. When we disagree with someone, we assume they are wrong (they very well may be) but to assume other things about that person based on their belief is the problem.
One of the most important lesson children (and most adults) must learn, is that just because you have a differing fundamental opinion or set of beliefs than someone else, doesn’t mean you can’t respect them and get along them just fine.
1. Just because something is right, legal, or completely logical doesn’t make it true. During the project one of our goals was to stay out of a legal battle, this meant abiding by their rules, even if we knew they were in violation of some of our basic rights. Sometimes it is best to swallow your pride for the greater good.
2. I believe anyone can work a ridiculous amount of hours in a week without getting burnt out, the key is to work on something* you are very passionate about. *(It is much easier to be passionate about something you believe in, not something you were told to believe in)
3. Being a part of a large project that is actually helping people is one of the most exhilarating experiences in the World.
4. I got more frustrated than I had ever been in my life and learned that I had more self control than I thought. When you step out of your comfort zone you learn much about yourself.

Helping out at Regina’s Canada Day in Wascana Park I met a young gentlemen who was volunteering for the day. Blain, a quick-whited kid, just a bit younger than myself, had an adorable dog named Dewey with him at all times.
Just after sunset in the park, a man rushed over to Blain and I, he had a severe problem on his hands. Here is how the he started the conversation, “I have to go to the washroom but when you close the outhouse door you can’t see anything in there and the Legislative building is locked, I need to go to the washroom, what should I do?!?” Without missing a beat in a condescending tone Blain snapped, “well I could guild you!” Trying as hard as I could not to laugh at what just occurred in front of me, I helped this guy explore his washrooms options, apologized to him for not having lit outhouses, and he went on his way. It was a very interesting moment for me.
